Mixed Results on
Magnetic Water Conditioners
Publicly available
laboratory reports on the effectiveness of magnetic water conditioners
are abundant but show mixed results, with many reports concluding that
these units have no value at all.
Many water experts are skeptical about
magnetic conditioners, although some feel that the technology has a
bright future. They believe that advances in materials and new
scientific discoveries will help perfect the magnetic water conditioning
system until it becomes as reliable as the traditional methods.
The Japanese and the U.S. are both conducting research on the potential
of the magnetic water conditioner. If it can be proven to work, energy
could be saved in any applications that require water to be heated. Even
a thin layer of lime scale can reduce heating efficiency by 10 percent.
As environmental issues grow, the need for environmentally friendly
technology is growing.
A scientific federal report on the plausibility of using electromagnetic
technology for water treatment revealed favorable results when used
commercially. However, it stated that the system must be installed
properly and inspected regularly. It is not maintenance free as some
distributors claim. This report also stated that there are numerous
disreputable manufacturers and vendors of these systems and that they
have contributed to the skepticism about this method. However, the
report recognized manufacturers in business for as long as 6 years who
have had fewer than one out of ten units returned for a refund. This is
a 90 percent satisfaction rate! All dealers keep many testimonials on
hand.
Publicly available laboratory reports on the effectiveness of magnetic
water conditioners are abundant but show mixed results, with many
reports concluding that these units have no value at all. Still, it is
hoped that the technology will be perfected soon and that inexpensive,
environmentally friendly magnetic water conditioners will be available
for wide use. At present, it appears that traditional mechanical water
softeners are more efficient at preventing lime buildup.
